With growing attendance, a few changes have been made to better serve the attendees, more food trucks are on the agenda, as well as a large white canopy tent for shade, fans under the tent, and more tables and chairs. A small portion of King Street will be closed to accommodate the food trucks and allow more space on the parking lot surface for the canopy tent. Guests are also encouraged to bring a lawn chair if they so choose. This event is free and open to the public. According to Suzanne Roberts, Downtown Development Director, “Various food trucks will be on location serving up a variety of entrees and snacks for purchase and will also have non-alcoholic drinks available.”

Food Trucks participating include Eazy Eats, Dominic’s NY Pizza, Four 41 South BBQ Co., Julian’s Kitchens, Cousins Maine Lobster, AMAIZEing Eats, Jandy’s Frozen Yogurt, and Country Cabin Sweets & Treats Lemonade Stand. Wall Street Catering Company will be on location selling beer and wine. The hosts encourage patrons to view the food trucks website and social media accounts to become familiar with their menus. Please keep in mind that some items are seasonal and some menus may be limited so not everything will be served at this event.

Live musicians will perform the entire evening. An old favorite, Ben Honeycutt, returns for the first slot from 6:30-8:30 and a hometown guy, Derek Andrew will take the second slot from 8:30-10:30. According to Ashley Goble, United Way of Gordon County Director of Communications & Community Involvement, “Each of the food trucks paid a small fee to attend the event. Their proceeds support the United Way of Gordon County’s Young Leaders Society quarterly community service initiatives in 2018.” In 2018, YLS has given back to United Way agencies in different ways such as collecting art supplies for Family Resource Center’s Prevent Child Abuse Art Therapy program and donating water bottles to Gordon County 4-H Cloverleaf Campers. The Steering Committee and members are starting to collect two different items for the third quarter, the Voluntary Action Center is in need of laundry pods and boxes of cereal.

Food Trucks & Friends is a distinctive event unlike anything else in Calhoun/Gordon County. Food trucks are selected in advance and asked to attend, no booth setup is available. Please keep in mind that there will be some lines because the food is being prepared fresh for you onsite! The prices may also be different from what you may be used to paying. Food truck pricing is usually slightly more expensive than fair or festival food because of the quality of the food. Your patience and understanding while you are at the eventis appreciated. Restrooms and air-conditioned seating are located inside the Calhoun Depot.

Downtown Calhoun is the place to be Friday, August 24th! Information can be found in the Facebook event “Food Trucks & Friends” and you can invite your Facebook friends to attend as well! Questions about the event can be directed to Ashley Goble or Suzanne Roberts.
