Unity Run 5K Postponed - 2020

We, at United Way of Gordon County, feel socially responsible for the health and well-being of our community. Due to the uptick in COVID-19 cases, we have decided to postpone this year’s race. This decision was not made lightly as we cannot guarantee your safety from the virus which played a big part in our decision.

“Mohawk Presents Calhoun’s Dancing with the Stars Gets Schooled!” will look a little different this year. The biggest change, we are not selling tickets to the public.

With the uptick in local COVID-19 cases, we have developed a plan that will allow a very limited and socially distanced audience made-up of the dancers' immediate family and sponsors.

DWTS: Couple 9

“Mohawk Presents Calhoun’s Dancing with the Stars Gets Schooled!” will put eighteen local high school students on stage for back-to-back shows at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 at the Calhoun Performing Arts Center.  Nine dance teams will vie for trophies, bragging rights, and college scholarships as they compete to raise funds for United Way of Gordon County.

At United Way of Gordon County, the health and safety of our community is a top priority. Like many, we are closely monitoring the continuing developments related to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, and will be following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Georgia Department of Health, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, AdventHealth Gordon, and local city and county health departments.

Dancing with the Stars Postponed

In accordance with Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance to limit large gatherings for the next eight weeks, on Monday, March 30, the United Way of Gordon County Board of Directors and the agency’s Dancing with the Stars Planning Committee announced its decision to postpone this year’s “Mohawk Presents Calhoun Dancing with the Stars” event.

Jennifer Latour, executive director of United Way of Gordon County, confirmed that all parties have been notified and that additional information about new dates and times will be provided when decisions are in place.

As I reflect on this past year and the 2020 campaign season, I am reminded of just how fortunate we are to live in such a giving community. The United Way of Gordon County exceeded its 2020 campaign goal of $750,000 with a total amount of $800,500 pledged to our community. Without our donors, we would not be able to invest in programs that support, advocate, and uplift the people in Calhoun-Gordon County.

On Monday, September 23rd participants may pick up their bib numbers and race shirts from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Historic Calhoun Depot, located at 109 South King Street, Calhoun.

The popular downtown event, Food Trucks & Friends began in August of 2017 as a partnership between the United Way of Gordon County Young Leaders Society (YLS Gordon County) and the Downtown Development Authority (Downtown Calhoun). This event is normally hosted in the Spring and Summer.

The popular downtown event, Food Trucks & Friends is back again! The upcoming August date marks the fourth food truck gathering since August of 2017. The United Way of Gordon County Young Leaders Society (YLS Gordon County) and the Downtown Development Authority are partnering again to host another fun evening happening on Friday, August 24th, 2018 from 6:30-10:30 at the Historic Calhoun Depot.
